Your musical influences?
Nativ-My main influences when i was growing up was mainly west coast hip hop, i was really young when the whole scene kicked off and i liked the new rebellious sound. I have always been around the grass root music jazz, soul and caribbean music. my family have always been involved with music my brother is a drummer and percussionist and my dad is a singer so its in the blood. Now my main influence is trancey, hip hop fusion styles of drum n bass with very strong bass lines, cant get enough of the bass
Replica- All genres of music are unique + each has its own thing to offer, Im intrigued by sound itself and the effects it has on all things it comes into contact with, sound can create feelings, thoughts, atmospheres + emotion. It's like a language that the sub-conscious understands and translates into visual thoughts that the conscious mind can see and understand making sound/music the greatest thing to experience. To broaden your mind I suggest listening to: drum n bass, hip-hop, breakbeat, funk, house, dub-step, classical, electric, oldskool, rock, grime, jazz, + other soulful music from all countries, native people and general harmonic sounds......
What type of music do you specialise in?
Nativ-I specialise in the darker more technical drum n bass, i like fresh new sounds and ideas and i draw alot of inspiration from up and coming artists all over the globe. This genre of drum n bass is expanding rapidly and is infused with hip hop and even bashment, i think it is the one to watch!!! replica- drum n bass ( tech-step, neuro-funk, darkside + chillout )
music scene - what do you think about it?
Nativ-I think it has stagnated lately but it seems to be getting stronger, alot of the new ideas from abroad are reaching back and breathing new life into the scene, i think soon it will explode...watch this space
replica- The music scene at the moment is in a great place, people are listening to music that inspires them and makes them feel good when listening, so genres like drum n bass are growing and creating a more worldwide audience to cater for the intelligent fans who dont just like any old rubbish thrown at them. There has to be specific content in beat that grabs peoples attention. There are many great artists out there at the moment experimenting with all kinds of sounds and bringing it to drum n bass this is why I think it's the future of music artists currently improving + making the scene include the likes of: Noisia, Evol Intent, Spor, Muffler, Chase+Status, Gridlock, Hive, Ewun, Chris SU, Klute + many more
What has been your coolest DJ night and why?
Nativ-I have done a few bars and small clubs and private parties, but by far the best night was a private party in south London, the house was massive and the crowd of people was so energetic and responsive to the tunes i dropped. Best club night ever had to be at The End. The line up was amazing and the atmosphere was unbelievable. The sound system in the place was so good, alot of my favourite producers and DJ's were there it was unforgetable.
Replica- renegade hardware at the end this is because you get what you expect, great vibes, sounds, performance + technical mixing from some of the best artists the scene has, I will always have memories of it..... Anyone else who has been will kow what I'm talking about!
